Welcome Letter from the Preschool Director,

It is with a great deal of pleasure that I write this letter to welcome preschool families to Thomson Primary for the 2017-2018 school year.  Preschool is a time of wonderment and adventure for your child as well as your family.

Preschool children will attend school Tuesday through Friday.  Preschool opportunities are funded for children 2 1/5-5 years of age in 11 different sessions.  Children qualify for preschool and are placed in classrooms that support social and emotional growth, physical and fine motor skills and relationship building with peers.  Preschool classrooms use curriculums that support play based structures and lesson planning.

Preschool children’s nutritional needs are met with funding through the Child and Adult Food Program (CACFP) from the Department of Health and Human Services.  All meals are prepared in the Thomson kitchen and all menus meet the requirements and guidance from CACFP.

Preschool mandates are required to meet goals for children and one of the goals that the program strives to meet is quality ratings through Colorado Shines at the state level.  Thomson Preschool classrooms are rated 4 star out of a 5 star rating.  As programs continue to ensure quality for your child our goal is that no preschool child will be at risk for school failure.  Teaching staff work tirelessly with children and families to meet this goal.  Preschool may appear to be a place where children only play and teaching staff are childcare providers, but I can guarantee that all children who have the opportunity to attend preschool at Thomson are receiving a high quality play based education that will continue to meet the child at their developmental level and beyond.

We encourage families and community members to volunteer in the preschool classroom or serve on the Preschool Policy Council where you have the opportunity to make decisions that impact education at the ground level.

My door is always open, so if you ever have questions or want to support preschool feel free to contact me by email, b.wacker@brushschools.org, phone calls, 970-842-5139 ext. 2000 or my cell number is 970-467-7076.
